For high school faculty members like myself, it's an intense time of work, with the summer vacation shimmering like the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (unless a summer job is needed to make ends meet, or pay for the children's college education).

This is the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.

To the Editor: Regarding "The Battle for Brooklyn" (Dec. 19, 2004), it seems that just about everybody, including several large Manhattan real estate brokers, have found that Brooklyn real estate is the proverbial "pot of gold" that will make everyone rich.

If they did what they do to us all of a sudden, it would be like a frog being dropped in that proverbial pot of really boiling water.

Except for the circus, you haven't got the proverbial pot or a disposal unit to throw it into.
