In Brooklyn, the commander of the 67th Precinct detective squad joined the force after earning a master's degree from New York University.
Detective Carrington was assigned to a team of undercover narcotics officers in the 46th Precinct detective squad, helping the detectives with cases.
Lieut. Joseph Pollini, head of the 81st Precinct detective squad, said there has also been a cultural change by some neighborhood drug dealers.
"We're lucky we don't have more dead," the commander of the 41st Precinct detective squad, Sgt. Michael Garvey, said.
"We don't have any indication at this time that it's drug related," said Sgt. Robert Maas of the 34th Precinct detective squad.
He is commander of the 44th Precinct detective squad, not of the precinct.
"The person who lives in the apartment is apparently out of the country," said Lieut. George Pagan of the 24th Precinct detective squad.
