A15 German leaders have set July 2 as the date for a monetary, economic and social union of the two nations.

This common heritage was a bond of social union.

Some key issues on monetary, economic and social union remain to be settled, however.

There are many more of us who wish political and social union to progress, united in diversity.

What we now need is a genuine economic and social union that offers every citizen a future.

We should therefore broaden out monetary union into an economic and social union.

This may enable us to make the quantum leap to economic and social union in Europe.

It is time that we included a chapter on employment in the Treaty, and an environmental and social union.

It must move towards a social union at the same time.

The second step is social and environmental union.
