On 19 April 1958, the 192d was authorized to expand to a group level, and the 152d Fighter-Interceptor Group was established by the National Guard Bureau.

As a result, the 182d was authorized to expand to a group level, and the 149th Fighter-Interceptor Group was established by the National Guard Bureau.

On 1 December 1960, the 199th was authorized to expand to a group level, and the 157th Fighter-Interceptor Group was established by the National Guard Bureau.
