The original Moscow-Vladivostok route, completed in 1904, cut across China's northeastern provinces, or Manchuria; the section of the railway located within China was known as the Chinese Eastern Railway.

AT Royal Troon, the 11th hole is known as "the Railway" for the trains that rumble by on the other side of the stone wall to the right.

It then became known as the "New Western Railway of Buenos Aires".

The States of Jersey purchased the railway track on 1 April 1937, and created a trail now known as the Railway Walk, linking La Corbière and Saint Aubin for pedestrians and cyclists.

The remains of the site are still visible after more than 150 years; these ruins are known as the Old Railway (Alte Eisenbahn).

The town is on the original stretch of the Trans-Siberian Railway which crossed Manchuria on its way to Vladivostok, known as the Chinese Eastern Railway.

Despite its initial success in having the branch from Angermünde built, the Stralsund Society continued to campaign for a direct connection, known as the "Northern Railway".
