Fallowing is usually done to conserve moisture.

I think this can be solved if you have either the Leafs or Habs, teams that do have a huge fallowing in the US.

In the late Middle Ages, the use of manure as fertilizer increased, which in turn decreased the necessity of regular fallowing of fields.
