"I just don't see the voters giving it to them," Palm said.

Palm said yesterday that it had misrepresented the color capabilities of its m130 hand-held computer, which was put on the market in March.

At the time, Palm said the computer's screen was capable of displaying 65,536 color combinations.

Last month, Palm said it would lay off 12 percent of its work force, roughly 100 people, in hopes of becoming profitable by 2005.

Palm says the Foleo offers five hours of battery life and can power on instantly.

"If the public outcry mattered, we'd already have a playoff," Palm said.

Palm says it has also added new on-line features, including the ability to trade stocks and participate in auctions.

In terms of malpractice, Palm says, "we highlight danger points, like missing appeal deadlines."

Palm said it would announce agreements with other carriers by the middle of next year.

And Palm, by the way, while acknowledging it and apologizing, didn't say they were going to stop.
