The county courthouse is the center of justice for the area.

The first floor of the county courthouse was changed into a medical center.

A new county courthouse, the current building, was built in 1818 on the site of the first one.

The county courthouse and the city's first public school were built the following year.

On the evening of May 20, 2009 the county courthouse caught fire.

It is the third county courthouse to stand on that site.

The county courthouse and its records were lost to a fire in 1884.
