There are several varieties in Ceylon, among which the great black wanderoo, with white whiskers, is the nearest in appearance to the human race.

The lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus), or the wanderoo, is an Old World monkey endemic to the Western Ghats of South India.

Words from that book became used internationally: the best known is Buddha but others include Anaconda, betel leaf, bo tree, pooja, rattan, rillow, Vedda, and wanderoo.
