The snakehead murrel (Bengali: শোল), Channa striata, is a species of snakehead fish.

The freshwater products include anga, pigok, haloan (snakehead murrel), bunak, damagan, subok, dalapakan, and kasili (eels).

The species declined in the course of the 20th century, mainly because of habitat destruction, entanglement with monofilament gillnets and predation by the introduced snakehead murrel (Channa striata).

The grebe was wiped out by habitat destruction, by the introduction of a carnivorous fish called the snakehead murrel and by nylon gill-nets which accidentally caught and drowned many birds.

SNRV was isolated by virologist W. Wattanavijarn from a snakehead murrel, Channa striata (formerly Ophicepahalus striatus), a species of snakehead fish, which exhibited signs of epizootic ulcerative syndrome following an outbreak of this syndrome in Thailand.
