Everyone has the right to form and join trade unions for the protection of her/his interests.

Workers have the right to form and join trade unions without prior authorization, and approximately 10 percent of the total work force is unionized.

Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining: Respect the right to form and join trade unions and bargain collectively.

Although laws applying to private-sector workers' rights to form and join trade unions were unaffected by 19 September 2006 military coup and its aftermath, workers who participate in union activities continue to have inadequate legal protection.

New Zealand reserved the right not to apply Article 8 (the right to form and join trade unions) insofar as existing measures (which at the time included compulsory unionism and encouraged arbitration of disputes) were incompatible with it.

These rights include, but are not limited to, the right to work, the just and favorable conditions of work, the right to form and join trade unions, the right to an adequate standard of living, and the rights to food, adequate housing, health and education.
