Ceylon ebony (Diospyros ebenum)

It is best known for being one of the trees that yield ebony; the wood of this tree is called Ceylon Ebony or India Ebony, but often simply called "ebony".

Predominant species are Manilkara hexandra, Mimusops elengi, Ceylon Ebony (Diospyros ebenum), Strychnine tree (Strychnos nux-vomica), Eugenia spp., Drypetes sepiaria, and Flacourtia indica.

Its binomial is Diospyros ebenum.

The name Abanoz in Turkish means the tree ebony (Diospyros ebenum) referring to the trees around the yayla.

Furthermore, Kaluwara (Diospyros ebenum) timber and Milla timber were used for the wooden decorations.

Some species in the genus Diospyros yield an ebony with similar physical properties, but striped rather than evenly black (Diospyros ebenum).

It is a member of the family Ebenaceae, together with trees such as true ebony (Diospyros ebenum) and the edible persimmon, (Diospyros kaki).
