Cooper studied law at Kingston Polytechnic and graduated with a masters degree in law from the University of Warwick.

Kelsall was a lecturer at Kingston Polytechnic, now Kingston University, from 1977 until his untimely death in 1986.

In 1930 the art school separated from the technical college only for the pair to reunite in 1970 and form Kingston Polytechnic.
