Cultivated cherry plums can have fruits, foliage, and flowers in any of several colors.

The grounds were primarily filled with cherry, apricot, plum, and almond orchards.

There are two main cultivars grown for fruit production, derived from cherry plums grown in Nancy and Metz.

Its leaves turn rich purple in autumn and it produces small, sweet 'cherry plums' when mature.
