Radiocaesium does not accumulate in the body as effectively as many other fission products (such as radioiodine and radiostrontium).

Groundwater was not badly affected by the Chernobyl accident since radionuclides with short half-lives decayed away long before they could affect groundwater supplies, and longer-lived radionuclides such as radiocaesium and radiostrontium were adsorbed to surface soils before they could transfer to groundwater.

Radiocaesium does not accumulate in the body as effectively as many other fission products (such as radioiodine and radiostrontium), which are actively accumulated by the body; as with other alkali metals, it washes out of the body relatively quickly in the sweat and urine, unlike strontium which accumulates in the bone.
