proceedings at first instance

The defendant initially bore his own costs, but was legally aided from 5 July 1990, before the conclusion of the proceedings at first instance, until the disposal of the appeal by the House.

They hold rights of audience in all proceedings at first instance relating to costs before the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (and previously the House of Lords) and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
