Penile subincision was traditionally performed on the island for those wanting to learn a complex ceremonial language called Damin.

It may be accompanied by body scarification and the removal of teeth, and may be followed later by penile subincision.

The Lardil had two initiation ceremonies for men, namely luruku, which involved circumcision, and warama, which involved penile subincision.
