In under 15% of people the basilar artery gives rise to the labyrinthine artery.

The internal acoustic meatus transmits the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves and the labyrinthine artery (an internal auditory branch of the basilar artery).

It also gives off the labyrinthine artery in most cases; however, the labyrinthine artery can emerge as a branch of the basilar artery in others.
