geranium phaeum

Geranium phaeum, commonly called Dusky Cranesbill, Mourning Widow or Black Widow, is a herbaceous plant species in the Geraniaceae family.

These share the ground with self-seeding dark aquilegias and Geranium phaeum 'Samobor' with its purple flowers and maroon-splashed leaves, astrantias and 'Patty's Plum' oriental poppy, and, later, purple asters and eupatorium.

Old beech trees and hollies provide dappled light for the hosta Aphrodite and Geranium phaeum Samobor, whose dark green leaves splotched with burgundy look as if they are floating on a river of golden creeping jenny (Lysimachia nummularia Aurea).
