Fibrothorax is fibrosis of the pleural space surrounding the lungs.

This fluid can lead to complications such as hypoxia due to lung collapse from the fluid, or fibrothorax, later, when the space scars down.

Asbestos exposure may also lead to a fibrothorax (also called diffuse pleural thickening), which is usually bilateral.
