Because azelastine starts working within 15 minutes, it can be used on an as-needed basis, as and when symptoms arise (on-demand).

Azelastine has a triple mode of action:

Azelastine is safe and well tolerated in both adults and children ( 12 years) with allergic rhinitis.

Pharmacokinetics of orally administered azelastine are not affected by age, gender or hepatic impairment.

Azelastine prevents sneezing, itching, runny nose, and other nasal symptoms of allergies.

Azelastine has a rapid onset of action; 15 minutes with the nasal spray and 3 minutes with the eye drops.
