Charpy impact test

The test is similar to the Charpy impact test but uses a different arrangement of the speciemen under test.

Charpy impact test:

Some of the most common types of tests are hydrostatic test, burst test, tensile strength, Charpy impact test and pressure cycling.

Often measured with the Izod impact strength test or Charpy impact test, both of which measure the impact energy required to fracture a sample.

Fracture toughness testing is very expensive and engineers believe that sufficient information for selection of steels can be obtained from the simpler and cheaper Charpy impact test.

The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy V-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture.

The Izod impact test differs from the Charpy impact test in that the sample is held in a cantilevered beam configuration as opposed to a three-point bending configuration.
