Weather systems also denied any movements of foreign species in to the mainland although there was a small influx of Lesser Emperors Anax parthenope into Britain in early July.

A. affinis is the only European Aeshna to lay its eggs in tandem; the only other European hawker to lay eggs in tandem is Anax parthenope.

Apart from the common Emperor Anax imperator, there is now the Vagrant Emperor Hemianax ephippiger, Lesser Emperor Anax parthenope and The American Emperor or Green Darner Anax junius to look for.

Again, the Forest of Dean was well recorded by John Phillips who found the Lesser Emperor (Anax parthenope) at Speech House Lake on 12th July and the Keeled Skimmer (Orthetrum coerulescens) at Blackpool Brook lagoon on 30th August.

Anax parthenope, the lesser emperor, is a dragonfly of the family Aeshnidae.

The site is known among dragonfly enthusiasts as one of the first sites in Britain where the Lesser Emperor was recorded as breeding, in 1999 (Pellow 2000).
